G. S. G. Shivakumaran

Mr. G. S. G. Shivakumaran received his technical education at the Hardy Senior Technical Institute (then Technical Training Institute) from July 1961 to June 1963, where he successfully completed the Diploma with a First Class.

Following his graduation, he served from 1963 to 1966 as a Technical Assistant attached to the Inginiyagala Power Station. With the takeover of the electricity business of the Government of Dominion of Ceylon – River Valleys Development Board (GODB–RVDB) by the Department of Government Electrical Undertakings (DGEU) in 1965, he was absorbed into the new organisation and appointed Electrical Foreman, a designation later upgraded to Electrical Superintendent. In 1969, the DGEU was reorganised as the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

In 1977, Mr. Shivakumaran passed the Final Examination of the Council of Engineering Institutions and was appointed as an Engineer in 1979. He initially served as Divisional Planning Engineer, and subsequently as Area Engineer – Dehiwala from around 1981/1982 until July 1983. He later assumed duties as Regional Planning Engineer and was conferred the professional title of Chartered Engineer.

Thereafter, he held senior managerial positions including Deputy Manager (Systems and Organisation Development) and later Manager (Systems & Organisation Development). During this period, he was promoted first to Class II Grade I (Chief Engineer level) and subsequently to Class I (Deputy General Manager level).

Mr. Shivakumaran went on to serve as Deputy General Manager (System Control), Deputy General Manager (Human Resource Development), and finally as Deputy General Manager (Training). He retired from the Ceylon Electricity Board in 2002, upon attaining the age of 60 years, concluding a distinguished career marked by technical excellence, leadership, and service to the national power sector.
