Prasad Ranjan Attygalle had his primary and secondary education in Royal College Colombo 7. Obtained his NDT-Agric Engineering from Hardy Institute Ampara. He obtained his BSc (Natural Sciences) from OUSL, Colombo and successfully completed his MSc in Forestry and Environment management from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo. He was awarded the SL-US Fulbright Commissions Huber H Humphrey Fellowship and followed graduate studies in Natural Resources Management at the Cornell University, New York, USA.
He is a Member of the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (MIIE), Member of Institute of Biology (MIBio) and Member of Institute of Environmental Professionals (MIEnv Pro.) all in Sri Lanka, Member of Society of Conservation Biology and Member of Society for Ecological Restoration both in USA, and Member of the Commonwealth Forestry Association of UK. He has specialized in Environment and Forestry.
His passion for Buddhist Studies enabled him to pursue a PGD, MA and a M. Phil from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
He has served in Mahaweli Authority for 26 years and left as the Deputy Project Director/Deputy ManagerEnvironment, worked with ADB, World Bank and JICA funded projects for about 14 years as Environmental Specialist, UNDP Technical Advisor for 03 years and as an ADB TA Consultant-Environmental Safeguards since January 2022 in Irrigation, Water Supply and Sanitation sectors.
He has been a visiting Lecturer for the MSc students of USJ teaching Watershed and Water Resources Management for about 20 years and currently serving as an External Members of the USJ Applied Science Faculty Board since 2023 and also an external member of the Ethics Review committee of the USJ since March 2025.
He has presented papers in National and International forums and some have been published in National journals. He has excelled in academic and extra-curricular activity at the Hardy Institute, and been awarded the Hardy Memorial Scholarship for the most outstanding student of the 1976-78 Agricultural Engineering batch by the OHA. He is a member of the Hardy Agro-Professional Forum and the Editor in Chief of the Journal of the HAP forum
